Mobility of Researchers

EURAXESS – Researchers in Motion

Within the scope of the Research Mobility Strategy of the European Research Area, the European Commission launched EURAXESS. EURAXESS aims to encourage and support international mobility of researchers, within and outside Europe. EURAXESS – Researchers in Motion is, therefore, a gateway to attractive research careers in Europe and to a pool of world-class research talents.

The European Research Area (ERA) of the European Union provides innovative scientific research opportunities, not only to researchers looking to advance their career in another European country, but also to scientific organisations in search of international talents.

EURAXESS thus includes several solutions for researchers, of which EURAXESS Services stands out.

EURAXESS Services

EURAXESS Services is a network of more than six hundred centres located in 43 European countries. As a researcher, these centres assist you and your family to plan and organise your stay in a foreign country. This free personalised service will help you tackle all issues related to your personal and professional life, including accommodation, visa and work permits, language training, schools for your children, social security and medical care. It thus aims to facilitate the social and professional integration of the researchers and their family (when travelling with them), by allowing them to minimize the resources required by bureaucratic and procedural matters.

The EURAXESS centre of the University of Porto is located at the International Office (SRI) of the Rectorate, and aims to assist all foreign researchers who intend to develop their research activities in the research centres and organisations of the U.Porto. The centre can also provide assistance to U.Porto researchers who intend to do develop their research career abroad. In such case, the centre may help establish contact with its European counterparts or suggest the researchers to consult the European portal.

EURAXESS also has made available:

  • EURAXESS Jobs - a free recruitment tool;
  • EURAXESS Rights - which provides details related to the European Chater for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers;
  • EURAXESS Links - which provides interactive web services to European researchers working abroad, in order to keep them linked among themselves and with Europe.
