The Rectorate is the core of the University of Porto organization and integrates all the central governance bodies. |
Organic Units
There may be three types of organic units:
The Organic Units of Education and Research, called faculty/institute, are responsible for teaching, research and provision of services in the fields to which their specific skills belong, and they can either be self-governed or not, and have scientific, educational, administrative and financial autonomy.
The Organic Units of Research, known as research institutes, can be self-governed or not, they have scientific autonomy, and may /may not have administrative and financial autonomy. (Not yet established).
The mission of the Doctoral School is to promote the creation and internationalization of doctoral programmes at the U.Porto. This organic unit without self-governance and with scientific autonomy may / many not have administrative and financial autonomy (in formation).
Group of Organic Units
The organic units can be assembled into groups for specific purposes, including those of a strategic nature or for sharing resources and services.
Autonomous Services
The SASUP (Social Action Services of the University of Porto) is an autonomous service of the U.Porto designed to carry out social action policies, by providing support, benefits and services within this sphere, in order to provide students with better study conditions.
The CRSCUP (Resource and common services centre of the University of Porto) is an autonomous service provided by the U.Porto designed to guarantee the functions exercised at central level. It has administrative and financial autonomy and depends on the central government of the U.Porto. It should also provide some or all of the support services common to the organic units.
