The Unit for New Technologies in Education of the University of Porto (GATIUP) is a unit of the Digital University.

Mission

The mission of GATIUP is to offer to all teachers at the University of Porto pedagogical and technical support aimed at enabling and encouraging initiatives of open and distance learning, taking full advantage of the Internet technologies, especially the Web.

Note that the keystones of this mission are the classroom and online component, i.e., blended-learning. However, some of the training courses available are already distance-learning courses.

Objectives

To disseminate and promote the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the Teaching/Learning activities, through:

• Dissemination/organization of events;
• Dissemination of good practices;
• Disclosure of past or ongoing e-learning initiatives at the U.PORTO, through half-yearly sessions to present and disclose projects at the U.PORTO;
• Providing training to teachers interested in the design and management of online Course Units;
• Support the academic community of the U.PORTO in the design, production and delivery of e-learning courses, in a mixed regime, that is, classroom and distance, as well as entirely distance learning;
• Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the introduction of ICT in U.PORTO courses;
• Support the creation of multimedia materials, of interest to the teaching and training activities at the U.PORTO;
• Participate in works done in collaboration with other Organic Units of the U.PORTO related to its activities and of interest to the achievement of its goals;
• Continuously update knowledge in the field of ICT applied to Teaching, namely through the follow-up and participation in national and international projects/events in this area.
