About U.Porto

International Cooperation

The stress of the University of Porto in internationalization is one of the strands of development shown in the implementation of several different international initiatives, in accordance with the "Strategic Development Plan" of the university. This approach allows the development of existing cooperation, as well as to start and establish innovative cooperation activities, by means of the establishment of cooperation protocols with universities all over the world, of the integration in several networks and interuniversity cooperation groups, and the active participation in a significant number of EU education, training and research programmes.

Many of these activities are especially developed within the scope of university networks in which the U.Porto takes part (Santander Group, Compostela Group, Tordesillas Group, Columbus Association, EUROMED, ASEA-UNINET, EUCEN, among others), and by means of several bilateral cooperation agreements signed with universities in all continents.

Cooperation of the U.Porto with other European universities is also apparent in the award of joint degrees, including several European masters. This cooperation is also reinforced by several agreements signed with European and Latin American institutions for the award of double degrees, joint scientific supervision of Doctoral theses, and the award of European Doctoral Degrees.

The development of its internationalization strategy at the U.Porto is guaranteed by the International Office (SRI) and by the Office for Cooperation with Portuguese-speaking and Latin American countries. Together, these offices ensure the coordination and development of international cooperation activities.
