University of Porto Campus

The University of Porto facilities were, for almost half a century, located within the historical centre in the heart of the city. This urban setting, a real obstacle to any attempt at territorial expansion, has narrowed the search for alternative places, places which would fit to the growing needs for the extension and construction of new buildings, mostly during the last quarter of the 20^th century.
After a failed attempt to build a university campus in the vicinity of the São João Hospital, the increase of university equipment has progressively taken place in the areas of Campo Alegre and Asprela, areas which now correspond to Campus 2 and 3 of the University of Porto.
