Photo of Carlos Tavares Carlos Tavares

He graduated in Economics (1975) at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto where he was also Assistant Professor.
He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários (CMVM) - Portuguese Securities Market Commission - and Vice-Chairman of the Committee of European Securities Regulators (CESR).
He has served as Director of the Bureau of European Policy Advisers, of the European Commission, until October 2005, and before that he was Minister of Economy of the 15th Constitutional Government (2002-2004).
In the private sector, he held positions in the Boards of Directors of Banco Santander de Negócios, Banco Chemical Finance, Banco Pinto e Sotto Mayor, Banco Totta e Açores, Banco Cisf.
In the public sector, Carlos Tavares was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banco Nacional Ultramarino and Vice-Chairman of Caixa Geral de Depósitos. Earlier in his career, he held several functions at the Ministry of Finance and was Secretary of State for Treasury of the 11th Constitutional Government and Director of Banco Português do Atlântico.

He graduated in Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto (1978). He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of FREZIGEST, SGPS, S.A. (Group FREZITE - Founder, 1978) since 2005.
He was Administrator of AFICOR, S.A. - Afiação e Reparação de Ferramentas (1983-2007), General Director of MIDA (1974-1990), Administrator of the Metallurgical Costa Néry S.A. (1974-1975) and Director (1972-1974) and Production Chief of CERLEI (1960-1972). He is Chairman of PRODUTECH (2009), Vice-President of the General Assembly of the Business Association of Portugal (2008) where he held various positions since 1999, Vice-President of the General Assembly of Manufuture Portugal (2005). He was Vice-President of Direction (2001-2004) and President of the General Assembly (2004-2007) of the CIP - Confederation of Portuguese Industry, which represented on the National Council for Environment and Sustainable Development (2000-2002), Vice-President of Porto Industrial Association (1984-1998), which represented on the National Quality Council (1988-1998) and on the Council of Science (1996). He represents Portugal in Commité Européen de L’Outilage (1998 -). It was Member of Direction (1987-1990) and member of the General Assembly (1998-2008) of EXPONOR and member of the General Assembly of EUROPARQUE (1998-2009). He is currently Chairman of the Direction of the Associação dos Industriais Metalúrgicos, Metalomecânicos e Afins de Portugal (1998-2012).

She graduated in German Philology, Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra.
She is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dr. António Cupertino de Miranda Foundation (since 1974); Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Casa da Música Foundation, representing the Porto City Council and all the municipalities that form the Greater Metropolitan Area of Porto (since 2006); Adviser to the National Culture Council by appointment of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities.
She has served as Administrator of Sociedade Porto 2001, S. A. (from 1999 to 2002); Adviser to the Advisory Board of Clube Universitário of Portuguese Catholic University, Regional Centre of Porto.

She graduated in Sociology, Lisbon University Institute (ISCTE-IUL). Her academic background also includes three Masters in Economics in different specializations, University of Paris I (Sorbonne), Doctorat en Science Economique (PhD), Universidade de Paris I (Sorbonne) and Aggregation in Economics, Lisbon University Institute (ISCTE-IUL ).
With an internationally recognized career in study and in definition of European policies, was minister for Qualification and Employment between 1995 and 1997, and coordinated the Lisbon European Council and the line of action of the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union (EU) in 2000.
She is currently Special Adviser of the European institutions (economic and social policies), Advisory Board Member of the European Policy Centre, Brussels, Member of the Board of Directors of the Institut Jacques Delors-Notre Europe, an association created by Jacques Delors, Paris. It is also Professor of European Economic Policies at the European Studies Institute of European of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB-IEE) and Lisbon University Institute (ISCTE-IUL).

He graduated in Chemical Engineering at the École Polytechnique Fédéral de Lausanne and has an MBA from EGP-UPBS.
He made a career in Grupo Sonae as CEO of Sonaecom, Director and Administrator of several Group companies. He was elected CEO of Sonae in May 2007.
He was CEO of Optimus and before that Administrator of Modelo Continente.
He is a member of General and Advisory Councils of several organizations.
