First degree in Psychology

The Degree (Licenciatura) in Psychology from the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto is an undergraduate study plan, lasting 3 years (6 semesters), corresponding to 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System). It has daytime attendance regime, although study plan can be attended part-time.


OBJETIVES

The Degree (Licenciatura) in Psychology has the major objective of offering students an initial training in Psychology, promoting the learning of foundational contents and basic skills in Psychology. The study plan was designed with reference to the EuroPsy diploma. More specifically, the study plan is intended to:

  1. provide students with a scientific culture and knowledge in the Psychology field, including the biological and sociocultural bases of human behavior, basic psychological processes and social relationships at the individual level, and at group and societal level;
  2. promote the knowledge acquisition and skills in the core domains of Psychology, in response to complex human and social situations;
  3. offer basic training on foundational theories and methods, in several areas of specialty within Psychology;
  4. allow the acquisition of ground skills for practice and research in Psychology;
  5. promote reflection on ethical and deontological dimensions of Psychology as a science and as a profession, highlighting its professional practices.


TARGET

The Degree (Licenciatura) in Psychology is mainly aimed for candidates who wish to acquire knowledge and skills that grant them:

  • access to a 2nd cycle of studies (Master's Degree) and, in this way, achieve the academic conditions for the professional practice of Psychology;
  • the possibility to proceed to advanced studies (3rd cycle – PhD).

This study plan can also provide a knowledge base that can be articulated with a 2nd cycle of studies of another scientific and professional areas. It can be also a training complement for professionals from other scientific areas.

National Competition for Access:

high school average 50%

entrance exams 50%

Specific entrance tests from the 2023/2024 school year:

18 Portuguese and 02 Biology/ Geology or
18 Portuguese and 17 Mathematics Applied to Social Sciences (or Mathematics A or B) or
18 Portuguese and 06 Philosophy
