Lifelong Learning Programme /ERASMUS
What is ERASMUS?
ERASMUS is the Higher Education section of the European Community action programme called Lifelong Learning Programme in the field of education. ERASMUS is a EU funded programme which aims the mobility and exchange of students and teaching staff. The programme is open to the 27 Member States of the European Union, the three EEA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and the candidate country (Turkey).

The LLP Programme, which replaced and continues the SOCRATES Programme, aims to contribute to the European Union's development as a knowledge-based society with sustainable economic growth, more and better jobs and greater social cohesion.
The LLP programme will be in effect between January 2007 and December 2013 and essentially seeks to promote exchange, cooperation and mobility between European training and education systems, with the goal of establishing them as worldwide quality standards.
This programme comprises four specific sub-programmes and one transversal programme:
University of Porto's Faculty of Engineering offers doctoral programmes resulting from a collaboration agreement between the Portuguese State and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). The programmes covered under this agreement are:
Students who want to obtain a dual diploma from CMU and FEUP have to apply for the doctoral programme at both institutions.

University of Porto's Faculty of Engineering offers doctoral and advanced studies programmes resulting from a collaboration agreement between the Portuguese State and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). We offer doctoral and advanced studies programmes in Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing, Sustainable Energy Systems and Transportation Systems.

For further information on this subject, please go to MIT Portugal.University of Porto's Faculty of Engineering offers the Doctoral Programme in Digital Media in collaboration with FCT/UNL. This programme results from a collaboration agreement between the Portuguese State and University of Texas at Austin (UTA). Students from University of Porto's Master's Programme in Multimedia will be able to transfer a significant amount of credits towards this doctoral programme's curriculum.
