Master some information on:
computer architecture (the John Von Newman model)
security (how to prevent and protect a computer from all types of malware)
Provide students with in-depth knowledge of word processing tools, spreadsheets and of how to prepare presentations.
Provide students with knowledge to process images (Adobe Photoshop).
Provide students with knowledge to produce iterative animations (Adobe Flash)
Provide students with knowledge to produce and disseminate static contents (master HTML+CSS languages)
Photography
The history of photography
Approach to photographic techniques and their relation with the construction of what is conventionally known as “photographic language”.
Analysis of multiple and simultaneous actions that resulted in photographic discoveries. The emergence of photography: the darkroom and the Renaissance perspective. The different photographic aids and processes and their aesthetic implications. Photography in Portugal. The most prominent photographers of the 19th and early 20th centuries that contributed to the development of technology and of new forms of photographic expression.
Seeing/Looking at photographs
Critical reflection on the work of the most important contemporary photographers.
Processes of capturing and processing photographs
. The camera: shutter, diaphragm, photometry.
. Photosensitive aids: film and paper.
. Processing: development and enlarging (negative/positive).
. The photo lab (P/B).
. Lighting: the photographic studio.
. New technologies applied to the photographic image.
. Image processing and editing.
Photography in the digital age
introduction and general concepts of digital image. Reasons for using digital photography. Processes of capturing images. Image manipulation process (using Adobe Photoshop).
Reflections on the digital image in the wake of history of images.
Development of authoring processes
. Setting up the portfolio.
Fully understand photography as a social document.

Video support: features and technical potential, image, duration and intention, script and text: standardisation of the script construction process.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Theory lectures on the topics addressed in the course subject, and for each technology.

Eligibility for exams
Mandatory attendance of 75% of classes, unless established otherwise by general law and in FLUP Assessment Regulations.
Calculation formula of final grade
Assessment is split as follows:
Computers: 50%
30% achieved in practical work
20% achieved in course work/continuous assessment
Minimum score of 10 (on a scale of 0-20) for the Computer component
Photography: 25%
10 % achieved in continuous assessment, based on the work developed during the semester
15% achieved in a final project
Minimum score of 10 (on a scale of 0-20) for the Photography component
Video: 25%
17.5% achieved in a final practical assignment
7.5% achieved in reports/continuous assessment
Minimum score of 10 (on a scale of 0-20) for the Video component
Examinations or Special Assignments
Failure to attend 75% of classes, in the cases established by law, may require an oral discussion of the assessment items presented.
