Renato Ferreira da Silva (MPharm, PhD) holds a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2019) from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto (FFUP) and a PhD in Clinical and Health Services Research (2024) from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP).
Currently, he is a Research Pharmacist (specialist in Pharmacovigilance & Pharmacoepidemiology) at the Porto Pharmacovigilance Centre, an Invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Community Medicine, Information, and Health Decision Sciences at FMUP, and an Invited Assistant at the Laboratory of Pharmacology of the Department of Drug Sciences at FFUP. RFS is also an Integrated Researcher in the PharmaHTA – Therapeutics, Pharmacovigilance, and Hypertension Diagnosis research group at the Center for Health Technology and Services Research, Associate Laboratory RISE – Health Research Network (CINTESIS@RISE), and a Collaborating Researcher in the Pharmacotherapy & Pharmacovigilance group of the Algarve Biomedical Research and Training Center (ABC-RI).
RFS’s research activities predominantly focus on drug safety, particularly in pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiology, integrating these areas with clinical research methodologies, health technology assessment, evidence synthesis - including systematic reviews and meta-analyses - and clinical epidemiology. He has expertise in the design and execution of post-marketing surveillance studies to evaluate drug safety, effectiveness, and utilization patterns, actively contributing to their conception, planning, and implementation.
Furthermore, RFS is an active member of several professional and scientific organizations, including:
• Secretary of the General Assembly of the Portuguese Society of Healthcare Pharmacists;
• President of the General Assembly of the Portuguese Association of Young Pharmacists;
• Member of the Clinical Trials Interest Group of the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society;
• Member of the Specialized Sections on Research & Clinical Trials and Regulatory Affairs & Quality of the Portuguese Society of Healthcare Pharmacists;
• Member of the Real-World Evidence and Big Data Group of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance;
• Member of the Cochrane Collaboration & Porto Associate Center of Cochrane Portugal;
• Member of the Portuguese Society of Pharmacology.
