Artur M. Pinto holds a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), including a research visit to the University of Washington (USA). He subsequently served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands). After completing his postdoctoral work, Artur returned to LEPABE-FEUP, where he was awarded a permanent Researcher position.
He is the Principal Investigator of five FCT-funded projects (two currently ongoing), including one in collaboration with UT Austin (USA), focused on the development of novel 2D nanomaterials for cancer photo- and immunotherapy. He also lectures in the Department of Chemical Engineering at FEUP and leads a research team of over 10 members. He is the primary supervisor of six PhD students, all recipients of FCT fellowships.
His research has received broad international media coverage, including major Portuguese outlets (TVI National Television News, Jornal de Notícias, Diário de Notícias, Observador); Record News International and Galileu (Globo, Brazil); WIRED, FOX News, KXAN-TV/NBC, NEWSMAX, Popular Mechanics, SciTechDaily, Futurity (USA); The Independent, Daily Mail (UK); El País (Spain); FOCUS Online, Berliner Morgenpost (Germany); Futura-Sciences, Science & Vie (France); Medonet (Poland); Blick (Switzerland); The Times of India; GeneOnline, TechNews (Taiwan); Media Indonesia; ZME Science (Romania); Focus on Economy (South Korea); and Bioengineer.org (Global/USA). This visibility across Europe, America, and Asia highlights the societal relevance of accessible, LED-based cancer therapies.
