Artur M. Pinto holds a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), including a research visit to the University of Washington (USA). He subsequently served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands). After completing his postdoctoral work, Artur returned to LEPABE-FEUP, where he was awarded a permanent Researcher position.
He is the Principal Investigator of five FCT-funded projects (two currently ongoing), including one in collaboration with UT Austin (USA), focused on the development of novel 2D nanomaterials for cancer photo- and immunotherapy. He also lectures in the Department of Chemical Engineering at FEUP and leads a research team of over 10 members. He is the primary supervisor of six PhD students, all recipients of FCT fellowships.
His work achieved global media coverage, featured in Jornal de Notícias, Diário de Notícias, Observador, S+ TV, Record News TV, Galileu (Globo), and Minuto News in Portugal and Brazil, as well as UT Austin News, Phys.org, SciTechDaily, Bioengineer.org, Tomorrow’s World Today (USA), Times of India, and GeneOnline (Taiwan). This visibility across Europe, the Americas, and Asia highlights the societal relevance of accessible, light-based cancer therapies.
