As a result of the Bologna Process, the new European Higher Education system offers three university degrees: Bachelor (3 years), Master (2 years) and Doctor (3 to 4 years). Some Faculties have created programmes that merge Bachelor and Master levels, integrating 1st and 2nd cycle programmes (5 years).
This is the case of most first level courses at FEUP. The completion of the first 3 years (180 ECTS) confers a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Sciences. The completion of the 5 years (300 ECTS) confers a Master's degree in Engineering (recognized by the Ordem dos Engenheiros, the professional body for Engineers).
The completion of the curriculum part of the Independent Master Programmes corresponds to a Masters Diploma (non degree) and the completion of the curriculum part of the Doctoral Programmes corresponds to a Doctoral Diploma (non degree). Continuing Education offers these types of programmes, as well as Refresher courses (30 credits or less) and a wide range of individual Training Units. These educational options are coordinated with our degree programmes
