Doctoral Program in Engineering and Public Policy

 

Accreditation by A3ES

The cycle of study is accredited by the Agência de Avaliação e Acreditação do Ensino Superior (A3ES). More information may be found in the reports produced by A3ES.

PDEPP is offered by FEUP in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University, as part of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Programme. It is a highly interdisciplinary programme focused on public policy issues where technological aspects have a decisive influence. 

  • Doctoral Degree offered by Universidade do Porto (Faculdade de Engenharia)
  • Also offered as a dual degree with Carnegie Mellon University (funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia through the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program)

Who can apply

Successful candidates for acceptance in this doctoral program will be:

  1. Holders of a master's degree or legal equivalent;
  2. Holders of a licenciatura/bachelor's degree with a relevant academic or scientific curriculum recognized by the program’s Scientific Committee as enabling them to attend this cycle of studies;
  3. Owners of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum recognized by the Scientific Committee as enabling them to attend this cycle of studies.

The programme´s Scientific Committee will assess the relevance of the academic, scientific and professional curriculum and verify whether it enables the candidate to attend this cycle of studies. Candidates whose final mark (average of the final marks obtained in the study programs/degrees weighted by the number of years) is below 14/20 will be considered only if relevant curricular information is available, e.g. the explicit support of a professor of FEUP.

Ranking Criteria

The selection will be performed by the program’s Scientific Committee, considering the value and relevance of the academic curriculum and professional experience, as well as the motivation for attending the doctoral programme.

The following items will be taken in consideration:

  1. Curriculum Vitae of the candidate;
  2. Final mark obtained in study program(s) and degree(s) held by the candidate;
  3. Motivation statement;
  4. Recommendation letters;
  5. GRE scores - Graduate Record Examinations;
  6. TOEFL scores - Test of English as a Foreign Language.

The candidates may be subject to an interview, should the Scientific Committee find it necessary.
