Credit Transfer

 


General Information

In accordance with the provisions of Article 45 of Decree-Law No. 74/2006, of 24th March, as amended by Decree-Law No. 65/2018, of 16th August, and in view of the continuation of studies to obtain an academic degree or diploma, higher education institutions:
a) May credit training carried out within the scope of other higher education degree-awarding cycles of studies in national or foreign higher education institutions, either obtained under the framework resulting from the Bologna process or previously;
b) May credit training carried out within the scope of vocational senior technician courses up to 50% of the total credits of the cycle of studies;
c) Credit curricular units successfully completed, under Article 46-A, up to 50% of the total credits of the cycle of studies;
d) May credit training carried out within the scope of non-degree courses taught in national or foreign higher education institutions, up to 50% of the total credits of the cycle of studies;
e) May credit training carried out within the scope of technological specialization courses up to a third of the total credits of the cycle of studies;
f) May credit other training that does not fall within the preceding paragraphs, up to a third of the total credits of the cycle of studies;
g) May credit work experience up to 50% of the total credits of vocational senior technician courses in situations where the student has over five years of duly attested work experience;
h) May credit duly attested work experience, up to a third of the total credits of the cycle of studies, without prejudice to the provisions of the previous paragraph.

To this end, students/applicants may submit a request for credit transfer regarding training/work experience they consider relevant for the cycle of studies/course they are attending or applying for. Such request can be made when applying (local applications) or upon enrolment/registration, in accordance with the procedure described below.

The Academic Services will be closed from the 23rd to the 30th of December.

Procedure to Request Credit Transfer

Credit transfer requests must be submitted online, within the procedure of application for a cycle of studies/course or, for students, on the student’s personal page, on the option "Reconhecimentos" (Credit transfer) > "Lista de pedidos de reconhecimentos" (List of credit transfer requests) > "Criar Pedido de reconhecimento" (Create credit transfer request).

The credit transfer request may not include curricular units of a level of qualification lower than the one of the cycle of studies you are applying/registering for.
It also cannot include curricular units obtained through credit transfer. In this situation, the curricular units that were actually carried out in the original Cycle of Studies /Institution
must be indicated.

The credit transfer request regarding prior training must include one of the following documents certifying the training to be credited, the grade and credits (if any) obtained (not applicable to training carried out at FEUP and U.Porto):

- Simple copy of the document issued by the higher education institution with the certificate registration number, in the case of higher education institutions that have centralized registers that can be publicly accessed through a unique identifier;
or
- Certificate issued by the higher education institution. In this case, the original version of the certificate must be presented at the Academic Services in order for the process to move forward.

Certified translation of the above-mentioned documents is mandato
ry when they were issued in a language other than Portuguese, Spanish, French or English.

For training completed in foreign higher education institutions, it is necessary to prove that the said institution is recognised by the competent authorities of the corresponding country as being part of their higher education system. In these cases, the credit transfer request must also include a:

- Declaration issued by the competent authorities of the country where the qualification was obtained recognising the institution as part of its higher education system.
or
- Declaration issued by DGES (Directorate-General of Higher Education) attesting the level of the foreign training for the purposes of equivalence/recognition, in accordance with the procedure set out at https://www.dges.gov.pt/pt/pagina/declaracoes-naric.

The credit transfer request regarding work experience must include the following documents:
a) Duly dated and signed curriculum vitae;
b) Succinct and objective statement listing and substantiating the information relevant for credit transfer purposes;
c) Proofing declaration(s) from the employer(s) regarding the work experience or, if the person is self-employed, a declaration of commencement / resumption of activity issued by the tax office in that year of commencement or, in the following years, an income statement that must not have a zero income value;
Note: The certificate must indicate the role performed and respective dates.The original version of the declarations must be presented at the Academic Services in order for the process to move forward;
d) Work experience portfolio.
Presentation of additional documents may be requested during the process, if necessary.

Deadlines:
In accordance with the provisions of Article 6 of the Regulation No. 42/2019, of 10th January -
amendment to the Regulation on credit transfer regarding prior training and work experience of the University of Porto:
1 — Credit transfer requests can only be submitted:
a) Upon application for a cycle of studies/course for which credit transfer is intended;
b) Upon application for readmission;
c) Upon registration of the student for an academic year, when the training or work experience took place over the previous academic year; or
d) In exceptional cases, upon decision of the competent body of the Faculty, the following may be authorized:
     i) A second phase for submission of credit transfer requests when the posting of the evaluation results regarding the previous academic year took place after the deadline for submission of such requests;
     ii) When the student is registering for an academic year, submission of a credit transfer request regarding training or work experience carried out in years before the last academic year, when it is clearly within the scientific field(s) of the curricular units the student registers for.

After the conclusion of a credit transfer request, you may change your registration in curricular units within 10 working days.

Fees

Credit transfer requests are subject to the payment of the fees established in the UP Table of Fees.
