Readmissions, Change of Degree, Transfers 2012/2013

(Ordinance n.º 401/2007, May /2004 and the UP Regulations)

Acceptances


Announcement of readmissions, degree changes and transfers.

Readmissions are not subject to numerus clausus. (Item nº 1 of Article 5 of Ordinance nº 401/2007, of May / 2004).


Applications
Applicants must present, under pain of exclusion, the following documents:
  • Change of Degree


    This situation occurs when students enrol in a degree course other than the one they had attended in their last term, whether within the same higher education institution or at a different one, and whether there has been a time gap between the enrolments or not.

    DEGREE CHANGE PROCEDURES
    The following students may request a change of degree course:
    • Students who have been registered and enrolled in an national institution of higher education without completing the degree;
    • Students who have been registered and enrolled in a legally recognised institution of higher education in its country of origin, whether the student has completed the degree or not.
    RANKING CRITERIA
    Degree in Biochemistry:
    1. The best average mark in the courses of Chemistry and Biology in the original degree course
    2. Best secondary school mark average
    3. Interview by the First Cycle Degree Committee
    These criteria are to be applied in the order in which they appear above. Students who have failed to pass, in their institution of origin, any courses in the fields of chemistry or biology are an mark average of 0 for application purposes.
    For other degree courses:
    • Average of marks received on national entrance exams for the degree or in similar fields in alternate FCUP exams for students 23 years of age or older, independently of when the marks were awarded. An exam mark of 0 will be assigned to any candidates who have not sat any of the stipulated exams.
      Tie-breaking procedures: Secondary school mark average in those disciplines identified as serving for entrance qualifications for the degrees in question. In the event that two candidates still are tied, the older candidate will be given priority.


    APPLICATIONS
    Applicants must submit the following documents:
    1 Application form/Letter of application
    2 Photocopy of Identity Card, Citizen’s Card or Passport
    3 Power of attorney, if applicable
    4 Proof of the last enrolment by the respective educational establishment
    5 Certificate of completion of secondary school with coursework specified
    6 Certificate of completion of admission exams for students aged 23+ (to be waived in the event that the student completed this exam at the educational institution applied for)
    7 hotocopy of the Study Plan of the degree course attended
    8 of higher educational coursework indicating whether the unit were annual or semester-long courses with indication of the ECTS credits
    9 Document issued by the student’s last institution of higher education stating that the student is not enrolled for academic year 2012/2013.
    NB: Students from UP need only provide the documents listed in items 1, 2, 5 and 6 above.


    The application must be handed in to the Undergraduate Department of this faculty, together with an application fee of 55 ¤ (as per the UP Fee Schedule).



    Transfers


    This situation occurs when students enrol in the same degree course (see Other Terms) but at a different higher education institution, whether there has been a time gap between the enrolments or not.

    CONDITIONS FOR TRANSFER
    The following students may request a transfer:
    • Students who have been registered and enrolled in a national institution of higher education without completing the degree;
    • Students who have been registered and enrolled in an institution which is legally recognised as being of higher education in its country of origin, whether the student has completed the degree or not.
    RANKING CRITERIA
    1. The highest quantity of coursework in annual disciplines with a weighting of 2.
    2. The highest average mark in the coursework completed.
    3. The oldest candidates.
    These criteria apply in the order listed above.
    APPLICATIONS
    Applicants must submit the following documents:
    1 Application form/Letter of application
    2 Photocopy of Identity Card, Citizen’s Card or Passport;
    3 Power of attorney, if applicable;
    4 Certification of the last enrolment by the respective educational establishment;
    5 indicating the duration of the course unit (whether annual or semestral) and the number of ECTS credits;
    6 Photocopy of the Study Plan of the degree course attended;
    7 Document issued by the student’s last institution of higher education stating that the student is not enrolled in academic year 2012/2013.


    (*) NB: Students from the UP only need to provide the documents listed in point 1 and 2 above.


    The application must be handed into the Undergraduate Department of this faculty, together with an application fee of ¤55 (as per the UP Fee Schedule).



    Other Terms


    Same degree course – Degree courses with the same title and which lead to the same educational grade or degrees with different titles but in the same academic areas, with similar goals and providing similar pedagogical training and leading:
    • to an educationally equivalent diploma
    • to a different level diploma when such results from an alteration or adaptation between a first cycle degree formerly known as the "bacharel" and a first cycle degree formerly known as a "licenciatura" or between an integrated "licentiate/master's" level degree.
    Credits - Credits according to the ECTS - European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System

    Portuguese marking scale – That which is outlined in Article 15 of the Decree-Law nº 42/2005, of 22 February

    Tie-breaking procedures - In the event that two or more candidates receive equal ranking and are competing for the last vacancy in a FCUP degree course, the Director shall decide between the candidates and, if necessary, create additional vacancies.
